All-Purpose Brown Rice is a staple side dish in my house. I use it in my Loaded Vegetable Beans and Rice. It's a great side for any Mexican dish like my Chicken Tacos. I love it with Roasted Vegetables too! It's such a versatile recipe.

The trick to making flavorful rice is to use broth instead of water. I use vegetable broth usually, but chicken or beef would work too. Start by boiling 2 1/2 cups of broth, 1 Tablespoon of olive oil, and 1 teaspoon of salt. The olive oil gives the rice a rich, creamy flavor.

Then pour the dry rice into the boiling broth. Bring everything back to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid. Cook the brown rice for about 50 minutes.

I love the nutty flavor of brown rice. This would be great with stir fry too! I usually make a big batch at the beginning of the week, and add it as a side to my week night dinners. It saves so much time!

Have you tried this in a rice cooker?
If so, did you adjust the liquid?
      Thank you!

        I don't have a rice cooker, so I wouldn't know! I'm sorry!

      Hello,

You mentioned cooking in a large batch and then using the rice throughout the week. Do you do anything special to the rice when heating it up? When I heat rice up it's usually hard and dry.

I've found quite a few recipes on the website I would like to try, everything looks so good. Thank you!

Yes! I usually a few drops of water to the rice and cover it with a microwave safe paper towel (one that doesn't have any ink on it). That way it re-steams the rice a little bit. I'm glad you like the recipes!!
