Welcome to The Hungry Waitress. This blog has been my home online for the past three years. It’s where I share and archive family recipes, recipes I have created, and some lessons I have learned in the kitchen. Really this blog has been my learning tool and has lifted me out of many ruts. You could even say it has changed my life because … well it has so far. Here’s a little context:
Back in 2011 I graduated with my Marketing degree and like most students I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and had little confidence. So, I did what a lot of young people do and waited tables. I’m not gonna lie … I loved it. I made a lot of money, I could work nights and sleep during the day (I’m a night owl), and I met so many interesting people (including my husband … yes he’s interesting).
I waited tables for 9 years! NINE YEARS!! It’s crazy to think about now, but I was stuck. I had past the window to use my degree, or for anyone to take me seriously in business. So, I decided to take some web design classes at a community college.
I was hooked. I love design, art, and being creative in any capacity so web and graphic design was the perfect compliment to my Marketing degree. I wanted to be a graphic and web designer, but I didn’t have any kind of portfolio. So I decide to start this blog to get me out of the restaurant rut and into the next phase of my life.
Cut to: After years of hard work, I finally got my first job offer. This blog helped me learn so many skills (food photography, writing, recipe development, web development, etc) and it pushes me to keep growing!
I hope you enjoy the recipes I create. They are recipes my family has lived on through the good and hard times. For the seasons in our lives when we struggled to get buy, but still were able to put a healthy meal on the table. This blog is a reminder to me of my humble beginnings, and what hard work and a little inspiration can bring.
I hope you find some inspiration here too.
